It was a year when one of the best super hero trilogies arrived on the silver screen and lived up to the expectation. As usual Nolan and Christian Bale had created the same old magic of the other two Batman series. Only thing missing was the Heath Ledgers powerful portray of joker which can be easily be described as unmatchable.
I like BATMAN more than any other superhero because he values lives of others and goes by the constitutional laws. He does not possess any mystical powers or anomalies due to some illogical experiments going wrong.
Finally of course he has a great vision to create jobs for people of Gotham and runs a successful enterprise, makes money, like any other super hero always thinks about betterment of human race.
The year of Dark Knight Rises also marks one more significant event, Mahatma Gandhi’s 143rd birth anniversary. The day when the whole nation tries to remember and remind the values of the Mahatma who taught new ways of upholding human values through non violence.
The same day UN celebrates ‘International Non-Violence day’. You take Gandhi out of India story and the story becomes weaker and becomes scrawny. What did Gandhi do to be remembered around the world for so long, how can his messages passed decades ago still be relevant? How was he able to unite a country with so many diversities, so many different interests, and different languages?
What was his weapon? A stick in his hand
What was his armor during the war? Just a piece of cloth wrapped around his waist….
Did he look like Bheema / Hercules / Hulk?
Nope he was merely 5.4 ft tall, lean and smile which is as innocent and welcoming as of an infant.
So the man with no mystical powers and with no fancy weapons was able to end the reign of British in India. Freedom which is the most valuable asset of the human kind was given back to Indians under the leadership and guidance of the Mahatma.
I managed 40 +members in one of my previous roles. I always struggled to make sure we are working as a team and moving in same direction for the betterment of the business.
I everyday found it challenging to say the least. Always some or the other member would miss the big picture and had to make lot of efforts to pull him back to the same page. Gandhi united 350 million people and kept them focused for more than 2 decades….It is just indescribable.
So, what Gandhi did was surely a supernatural phenomenon. He gave AHIMSA as the values and Peace as a weapon, Humanity as a framework and won the war and hearts of 350 million Indians and eventually the hearts of British press and people.
Now my point is do we see a real super hero in front of us?
Batman and Gandhi both respect constitution and go by the Law.
Batman works for the well fare of Gotham city which has lesser population than single suburb in Mumbai. Gandhi worked for betterment of India, Africa and many more countries, end of it for betterment of human values.
Batman took on villains who were handful in numbers and apprehended them. Gandhi changed the villains, made everyone realize villains are as bad as their thinking and once their thoughts are influenced they too can turn into heroes. His fight was simple and straight. Gandhi never needed a mask or the reassurance of darkness.
Although I am a big Batman Fan, I have to say there is no match to Gandhi. There is nothing ‘Dark’ about our super hero, he was and is a leading light for lot of people even today. He will keep inspiring everyone and encourage people to value each other.
He never needed a disguise, fancy weapon, bloodshed, break a rule (whether its law of physics or law of land J) so he is of course in my words an ‘abnormal superhero’
Jai Hind.
